If you are in search of an escape into the wilderness you will love it here. We bought this house 15 years ago and have since learnt a lot about the local culture and customs and our natural environment. So we feel that we could share this with you and help you to enjoy your stay, whether you are looking for activities, including many kms of marked walks, mountain-biking tracks, rock-climbing on the famous Buoux cliffs, wine-tasting etc, exploring the historic and picturesque local towns, buying food or eating out.
The Atelier des Cerissons is just an hour from Avignon and from Aix-en-Provence, in the heart of the spectacular Luberon Natural Park. Created in 1977 and spanning an area of over 185,000 hectares, the Natural Park is particularly rich in biological diversity. There are known to be around 1,500 species of flora and fauna which inhabit the garrigue, cliffs, ridges and oak woodlands. This accounts for 30% of the flora and fauna in France. Surrounded by the garrigue scents of herbs such as thyme, rosemary and lavender, this area will attract lovers of authenticity, calm, and unspoilt nature. Visitors are also drawn to the special landscapes of the Luberon including its ochres.
The cultural heritage of the Luberon has been punctuated by tumultuous events. Its perched villages, chapels, churches and cathedrals and the 2000 year old Domitian Way linking Italy and Spain bear witness today to this rich history.
